9/28/16: You Don't Know, What You Don't Know

Morningstars Toastmasters Meetings on CoastMind the gap” is a phrase that continues to ring in my ears long after my travels to England. It was an audible and visual warning issued to rail passengers to take caution while crossing the horizontal, and in some cases vertical, spatial gap between the train door and the station platform.

And it sums up the Morningstars meeting on Sept. 28.

Our fearless leader for the morning, Sandy W. expressed the viewpoint that the phrase “I don’t know” is the key to opening the door for knowledge expansion. By admitting a lack of knowledge, we can seek sources to fill that gap.

The theme was carried further by an inspiration from Frank. C., encouraging us to “fill the gap” and make connections in our world with new information.

Our speakers for this morning gave us a dose of information while encouraging us to step outside of our normal comfort zones – minding the gap of where we are and where we are going:

Sheila C., giving an impromptu speech on “Breaking Habits,” encouraged us to stop believing everything we think. She shared a four step plan to change the way we approach habits, such as purchasing chocolate bars at the checkout stand, and how to rewire our mentality for future success.

Our new VP of Ed, Neil B., delivered a Project 9 speech (Persuade with Power) that focused on “how we are all in this together.” “This” meaning Toastmasters and how we can strategically accomplish our CL and other milestone goals with one another.

Katherine S. also delivered a powerhouse #9 speech about stretching and growing outside of our Toastmasters comfort zone. She is leading a new session once a month at the Arts Building for Toastmasters and the public to talk about their passions. Click here for more details.
